“••••• 75 per cent of my students were on scholarship, says Abuluya ••••”
Nacabs Polytechnic, Akwanga, Nasarawa State, on Thursday matriculated 595 National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND) 1 students for the 2023/2024 academic session.
The institution called on the new students to shun examination malpractice, cultism, robbery among other social vices.
Mr Mandy David-Abuluya, the Founder of the institution, spoke in Akwanga during the 12th matriculation ceremony of the institution for 2023/ 2024 academic session.
Abuluya, who is the President, Eggon Cultural and Development Association ( ECDA) Worldwide stated that social vices had affected the lives and education of many students negatively, hence the need for the students to shun such vices at all times.
“I want to congratulate you for securing admission into this institution.
This institution is well known for its academic excellence, anyone caught will be expelled from the school,’’ he said.
Abuluya said that 75 per cent of the students were on scholarship.
” I have decided to offer scholarships to the students to enable them to have access to education.
” If not because of the scholarship, many will not go to school,” he said.
Abuluya, who is also the Chairman, Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) Nasarawa State, urged the students to be hard working.
Mr Timothy Maikori, the Rector of the polytechnic, congratulated the matriculated students and urged them to shun examination malpractice, drug abuse, cultism and other social vices.
” Our Motto, ‘Technology for Emancipation’, recognises the importance of leveraging emerging technologies in the area of ICT and modern technologies to ensure the delivery of academic excellence is not compromised.
” Our academic and administrative restructuring efforts are ongoing to ensure that we continue to provide the best possible education to our students both within and outside the campus.
He said that the polytechnic had obtained approval and was running Higher National Diploma programmes in Accounting, Business Administration and Management, Computer Science and Statistics,” he said.
He urged the students to take their studies with all seriousness in order to excel in life and for the overall development of the education sector.
Administering the oath of matriculation on the students, Mr Usman Ogah, the Registrar, urged the new students to abide by the oath, to excel in their academic pursuits.
The registrar called on the students to abide by all the school’s rules and regulations for the overall development of the education sector.
Responding, Deborah Emmanuel, a new student, who spoke on behalf of others, promised to abide by the rules and regulations.(NAN)
