The National Assembly Joint Committees on Aviation Technology said they would investigate the root causes of Aviation industry, including requesting audit reports on Airlines and reports from Safety Investigations Bureau.
Rep. Abiodun Akinlade, Chairman, House Committee on Aviation Technology said this in a statement on Thursday in Abuja following alleged unwholesome practices in the aviation sector.
He urged Airlines operators not to play kites with the lives of the citizenry, adding that the aviation business remained a critical industry.
He said the sector must prioritise the welfare of passengers above all other considerations.
He said that the challenges in the Aviation sector forced the two chambers to organise a national summit that would rally stakeholders to proffer solution bedeviling the industry.
According to him, the Senate and House of Representatives committees on Aviation and Aviation technology have resolved to organise a National Summit on the Aviation Industry.
This according to him is to address the concerns in the sector to ensure that Nigeria’s operators in the industry comply and operate with the global standards.
“Relevant and critical stakeholders in the aviation industry within and outside the country are expected to participate in the proposed National Summit to makeinputs that would make Nigeria’s airspace safe for all.
According to Akinlade, Nigerian Air Space must be safe for all to fly as the welfare and safety of citizens are the primary concern and priority of NASS committees on aviation.
“We will not tolerate the idea of cutting costs at the expense of endangering passengers’ lives”
Akinlade said the proposed summit would address the loopholes in the laws that guided the operation of airlines in Nigeria to strengthen the industry and ensure conformity with international standards practices.
He said the Committees were committed to ensure necessary laws were made and relevant amendments carried out to ensure that all airline operators complied towards addressing prevalent challenges in the sector.
