Nasarawa State House of Assembly Committee on Health says it is in total support of the move by the State Government to provide modern facilities in General Hospitals in the State for effective and efficient health care service delivery.
Chairman, House Committee on Health, Hon. Larry Ven-Bawa stated this when the committee inspected General Hospitals in Awe, Keana and Doma LGAs today.
Hon Ven-Bawa said that the committee was impressed with structures and equipment in the general hospitals.
The committee chairman commended Gov. Abdullahi Sule for his efforts in the health sector and promised to give him all the legislative support to do more in that direction especially plans to equip General Hospitals with more modern facilities through Hospital Management Board.

” He paid all the hazard allowances for health workers. He provided equipment and structures in the health facilities, he deserve commendation and support of the House
” I want to urge you to reciprocate the gesture by been dedicated to your duties at all times” he told staff of hospitals visited.Â
Hon Ven-Bawa equally appreciated the board and the management of the General Hospitals as well as staff for their commitment and hardworking in ensuring that the people of the state get the best health care services.
” The committee has seen commitment in the board and the management of the hospitals in the discharge of their responsibilities, we commend you for that and urging you to do more” he said.
Speaking, the Chief Medical Director (CMD) Hospital Management Board (HMB), Dr. Egba Edego appreciated the Assembly for their commitment to the development of the health sector in the state.
The CMD said that General Hospitals across the 13 Local Government Areas are receiving massive transformation due to effective synergy between the Executive and the Legislature.
DR. Edego commended Gov. Abdullahi Sule for the upgrading of General Hospitals in terms of structures and modern equipment which has gone a long way in advancing the operation of the facilities.
He, however lamented over the attitude of the people who built in the hospitals lands and encroachments appealed to the committee to assist the board to address challenging of land encroachment that has seriously affected five out of the seventeen General Hospitals in the State, an appeal the committee promised to tackle with all seriousness.
He said that the most affected facility is the General Hospital of Uke in Karshi Development Area where a large part of the its land have been encroached by the people of the area.
Egba said, the management of General Hospitals is maintaining a good working relationship with the host communities in ensuring peace and mutual understanding for effective service delivery.
In General Hospital Awe, the committee was conducted round the facility by the management of the hospital, moving from one section to the other to see for itself the working conditions and challenges.
The heads of sections took their times to explain to the committee the challenges of the hospital which included shortage of manpower and equipment, equipment such as Microscope, Blood bank, Spec, Incubator and autoclip were all outdated and not functioning.
While in General Hospital Keana the committee was taking to wards, laboratory, theater and other sections of the hospital where the management enumerated challenges to include operational lamp, man power, scanning machine and beds.
In General Hospital Doma, the management made a case for landscaping of the premises, provision of standard seminar room, provision of staff quarters and office accommodation.
The Three General Hospitals visited are in need of more doctors and nurses to compliment the effort of the one doctor in each of the facilities.
Power is also another challenge of the hospitals that need to be provided to power their equipment.
