Unidentified gunmen on Monday afternoon reportedly killed a vigilante commander, Chieloka Ubajekwe, shortly after they attacked a popular hotel in Nnewi, in Nnewi North Local Government Area (LGA) of Anambra.
It was learnt that the hoodlums arrived the hotel and started shooting sporadically into the air while the bullets were flying all around in the hotel premises.
An eyewitnesses, who pleaded anonymity alleged that the hoodlums abducted one of their victim from the hotel.
He alleged that the gunmen collected cellphones and other valuables from their victims they met in the hotel.
The source said that the vigilante commander who is popularly known as tallest, gave the hoodlums a hot chase upon hearing about the incident.
He claimed that the gunmen noticed that the vigilante commander was in their pursuit and shot at him at a point at Nnobi in Idemili South LGA of the state.
The development was said to have forced many people who disobeyed
the Monday sit-at-home order to quickly close their stalls and run home.
Meanwhile, when contacted for confirmation, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) SP Ikechukwu Ikenga, did not respond to his phone calls as at the time of filling this report.
