The National Senior Secondary Education Commission (NSSEC) has partnered the Civil Society Organisation Community Advancement and Humanitarian Empowerment Initiative (CSCHEI) in capacity development of Senior Secondary School teachers.
The partnership is to strengthen the teachers E-Learning, Technical and Sciences so as to technically equipped the students and enhance their self-reliance for global impact.
The Executive Secretary, NSSEC, Dr Iyela Ajayi made this known when he received the team of CSCHEI in his office in Abuja on a courtesy visit.
Iyela who recounted the deplorable state of senior secondary schools,
highlighting the infrastructural deficit, unqualified teachers, obsolete curriculum, deplorable libraries and laboratories, amongst others, as the numerous challenges confronting the sector.
He stated in specific terms that, the Nigerian government alone cannot fund education and as such, NSSEC, saddled with the responsibility of repositioning the senior secondary education sector, had been fostering collaboration with development partners and other relevant agencies.
He said this was to ensure they achieve their mandate of empowering the students to be self reliance upon graduation.
He applauded CSCHEI for partnering with NSSEC in the area of capacity development of teachers in e-Learning, Technology, Innovation and Sciences.
Earlier, the Director General of CSCHI, Kunle Yusuff revealed that, the CSCHI is an organisation created to support government in promoting humanitarian, community development and social values.
Yusuff stated that, as an organisation that upholds transparency in its operations, the organisation so believe in ‘No Teacher, No Development’.
He added that effort to collaborate with NSSEC in retraining teachers in e-learning, technical and science subjects in line with the Goal 4 SDGs Agenda 2030 was necessary.
He further said that the capacity building of the teachers would be taking place at the grass-root level in their various local government areas, to ensure inclusiveness of all schools,.
According to him, where the Science and Technical teachers are not enough for each school, the organisation has put measures in
place to bring back the retired but not tired science teachers to the classroom as resource persons.
This he said was to ensure that the SDGs Global Agenda was achieved by ensuring the students were technically equipped to enhance their self-reliance for global
impact upon graduation.
