A Professor of Political science, at Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, Mr Godwin Onu, said that president broadcast failed to address the causes of the #EndBadGovernance protest across the nation.
Onu described the broadcast of the president as one loaded with justification of the government harsh policies instead of concessions to pacify the agitators.
Onu said in an interview on Sunday in Awka who sought the views of the state residents after the national broadcast.
He said that the president failed to address issues like hunger, insecurity, electricity traffif increase, hike in petrol pump price,amongst others.
Onu said that failure of president to address the key issues tabled by the protesters may anger the group and called for negotiations.
Onu said that the broadcast failed to tell the people when the renewed hope agenda will vote to be neither did it offer alternative.
Onu urged the government to look at the pressing needs of the protesters and pay quick attention for immediate action that would give citizenry hope of living again.
” issue of lack of job, insecurity, food shortage, lack of basic necessities if addressed will calm the angry youths,” he said .
Onu called for release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu as a way to promote unity and oneness.
Mazi Christian Beluchukwu, a community leader in Anambra community said that out of all that was said,he appreciated the call to shun Ethnic bigotry.
Beluchukwu said that he appeals to the president to ensure that those calling for disunity of the country in any form be legally handled.
Mrs Patricia Anagor, a retired principal of a school in Anambra said that president broadcast rises hope for a new Nigeria but worries if his aides will abide by his words.
Anagor said that the call by the protesters were genuine enough to give quick attention and appealed that government should urgently address core areas.
Mrs Ngozi Imegwu a widow and a petty trader urged the president to ensure that his renewed hope agenda unfolds soonest before is too late.
Imegwu said there are need for alternative remedies to soothe the harsh economic situation currently face by the citizens.
She said that palliative should be pumped into the society in area of electricity traffif reduction, inputs for agricultural development, insecurity, amongst others.
Mr Daluchukwu Chiadikaobi a residents described the broadcast as words to dose the tension without proof of action.
Chiadikobi urged the president to direct the security personnel to be more professional in handling the challenge.
Chiadikobi said that the protesters are exercising their legitimate right to cry out their grievance to their government if they need comes up.
He appeals that application of force on protesters to live the streets should not be taken in the name of maintaining peace and order rather let government pay due attention to their request.
