The Chairman, Nasarawa State House of Assembly Committee on Health and Member representing Akwanga North constituency Hon. Larry Ven-Bawa has commenced free Breast and Cervical Cancer Sensitization and screening of 2000 women of his constituency.

This, the lawmaker said is to improve on their health status and general well being of women of his constituency.

Hon. Ven-Bawa, the Chief Whip of the House was speaking during the flag-off of the 4 day exercise in Agyaga electoral ward of his constituency, Akwanga LG.

He said that he decided to organize the breast and cervical cancer screening in order to enable the women ascertain their status in the interest of their health.

” As  early detection of Breast and Cervical Cancer will save lives of women and others.

” The sensitization and screening of the 2000 women is free of charge” he said. 

The lawmaker disclosed that the programme will be holding in Primary Health Care Centres in the Six electoral wards of the constituency

According to him, I have provided fertilizers, palliative, employment, empowerment among others and today i am sponsoring this exercise as health is wealth.

” I will continue to give topmost priority to the health of the people of Akwanga North constituency and others. 

” As a healthy nation is a wealthy nation. I have done well in the area of health among other areas.

” I want to  assure you of my continued determination to prioritize the health needs of the people of my constituency” he said. 

The lawmaker called on the women of his constituency to avail themselves of the opportunity in order to be screened of breast and cervical cancer.

” Many women have died of cancer, hence the need for women to come out for this exercise as prevention is better than cure” he said. 

Besides, Hon Ven-Bawa pledged continued  sound and effective representation at the state legislature.

Hon. Ven-Bawa commended Gov. Abdullahi Sule for his efforts in developing the state and for the peace being enjoyed in the state.

He also thanked Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau, the Speaker of the House for stabilizing the 7th assembly.

The lawmaker called on the people of his constituency to continue to pray and support Gov. Abdullahi Sule, and Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau, the Speaker of the state legislature to succeed.

Hon Ven-Bawa also appreciated Dr Gwamna Gaza, the State Commissioner for  Health for sending a representative, Dr Yahaya Bawa Ubam, Executive Secretary of NASHIA to the program and prayed God to guide and bless him abundantly.

Dr Gwamna Gaza, the Commissioner for Health while declaring the event open, restated the state government committment to give attention to the treatment of cancer and other diseases in the state.

Gaza, who was represented by Dr Yahaya Bawa Ubam, Executive Secretary, Nasarawa Stare Health Insurance Agency (NASHIA) commended the lawmaker for prioritising the health of the women and other people of his constituency.

He also called on the women to come out for the exercise in order to be screened and tested. 

The commissioner urged the people of Akwanga North and other citizens of the state to key into health insurance scheme in the interest of their health.

On their parts, Hon. Safiyanu Isa Andaha, Chairman of Akwanga LGA, represented by the Council Secretary, Mr Clement Vugyon, Hon. Shuaibu Basau, Deputy Chairman of Akwanga LGA, Hon Yunusa Adamu Amwe, Overseer, Akwanga West, Hon. Sameel  Mohammed Barikie, Permanent member one, SUBEB, Mrs Aisha Idris, APC Women Leader, Akwanga LGA,  Mrs Grace Jacob, Mr Tukura Salihu have appreciated Hon. Ven-Bawa for providing the much needed dividends of democracy to the people of the constituency and prayed God to bless him abundantly.

They said that they have not regretted for supporting and voting the lawmaker during the 2023 general election.

They assured him of their loyalty and support to succeed.

On her part, Elisha Rahab Mbegir, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Mbegir Humanitarian Cancer Initiative expressed the NGO’s readiness to continue to partner the lawmaker and other individuals on breast and cervical cancer.

She urged the people, particularly women to always go for breast and cervical cancer screening to ascertain their status.

In his vote of thanks, Hon Abbas Liman, the APC Chairman of Akwanga LGA also appreciated Hon Ven-Bawa for the good work his is doing for the people of Akwanga North constituency.

He said that Hon Ven-Bawa is the best member Akwanga North constituency ever produced.

The APC Chairman assured the lawmaker of his prayer and best wishes at all times.

It would be reported that the lawmaker organized the Breast and Cervical Cancer screening in collaboration with Mbegir Humanitarian Cancer Initiative.
