“… calls on Gov. Sule to give more attention to Special School, Relevant Technology Board…”
Nasarawa State House of Assembly Committee on Education, has directed the contractor handling the construction of Model One Smart School, Lafia to stop work immediately until further notice.
This, the committee said the House would not fold its hands to watch some contractors and individuals sabotaging government efforts in the education sector.
Rt. Hon. Abel Yakubu Bala, the Chairman of the Committee gave the directive when the lawmakers inspected ongoing construction of Model 1 Smart School Lafia and LGEA Primary School, Lafia East today.
Abel said that the committee decided to stopped the work over use of substandard materials and poor work entirely.
According to him, the ongoing construction of Model 1 Smart School Lafia stand closed till further notice over poor and substandard work.
” Look, we cannot afford to put the lives of our children and teachers in danger.
” Look at the structures, this building cannot stand the test of time. We cannot accept this.
” All the materials used are substandard, the sand used is not the real sand. The foundation was poorly done.
He commended Gov. Abdullahi Sule for his zeal and passion in the education sector of the State.
“His Excellency, Gov. Abdullahi Sule is doing well for the education sector among other sectors. He has built and provided infrastructure to school across the state.
” We will continue to join hands with His Excellency to ensure the development of the education and other sectors in the state” he said.
The committee called on Gov. Sule to give more support to SUBEB to succeed.
He commended the management of the board for being up and doing in ensuring that right things are done and called for its sustenance.
The committee condemned the action of some contractors, who engaged in fighting and insulting the technical team of the board.
” We will not take it likely with any contractor that fight with the technical team of SUBEB” he said.
The committee chairman disclosed that the committee would inspect proejcts sites across the state to ascertain the level of work done and in compliance with 2024 budgetary provisions.
Earlier, Alhaji Muhammad Musa Dan’Azumi, the Chairman, Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) appreciated the committee for the support the board is enjoying from them and called for its sustenance.
” I want to sincerely appreciate the committee for what you have been doing particularly for the development of basic education in the state.
Dan’Azumi disclosed that out of the 175 projects awarded across the state.
” 124 projects have been completed, 38 are ongoing and 13 yet to commenced” he said.
The Chairman assured of his readiness and commitment to ensure that quality works are delivered by contractors.
In a related development, the Committee also visited Government Comprehensive Special School, Lafia and Nasarawa State Relevant Technology Board to assess their 2024 budget performance.

Abel assured the Special School of their readiness to intervene towards overcoming the challenges facing the school such as low overhead cost and casual staff among others.
While in Relevant Technology Board, the Committee Chairman commended the board for training youths of the state in different skills acquisition programmes.
He also appealed to Gov. Sule to renovate classes in the board as well as give more attention to the development of the board.
Earlier, Dr Andrew Yakubu, the Head of School, Government Comprehensive Special School, Lafia appreciated the committee and Gov. Sule for prioritising the activities of the school.
He, however, enumerated the challenges facing the school to include low overhead cost, high cost of fedding the pupils, cost of fuel and casual staff among others.
On his part, Engr. Kasimu Hamidu, Acting General Manager, Nasarawa State Relevant Technology board said that the board has trained many youths and other people in different skills acquisition programmes in the state.
He appreciated the committee and Gov. Abdullahi Sule for supporting the activities of the board to succeed.
The Acting General Manager assured of their commitment to tackle youth restiveness and unemployment via training the youths in different skills in the state.
It would be reported that the committee inspected block of classrooms, welding workshop, Automobile workshop, Tie and Dying, Electricity Installation, Leather and Shoe making among others.
