Nasarawa State House of Assembly Committee on Environment has visited Baoan Global Mining LTD in Igwo community, Kokona LGA of the State over a petition written to the House by Osanga Otogoyi family on mining land ownership and dispute against one Alhaji Ali, whose the family leased their land to him for mining.
Hon. Mohammed Adamu Omadefu Chairman of the Committee led his members on a facts finding mission to Rafin Gabas, Igwo in Agwada, Kokona LGA today Thursday.
The area is where an exploration of Fluorite, Copper and Tin among others are taking place.
Hon. Omadefu said that the committee’s visit was on fact finding mission over a petition it received from the family of Osanga Otogoyi family against one Alhaji Ali.
” We are here on a receipt of a complaint by Ahmed Osanga Otogoyi family, who complained that it has leased a portion of land (mining pit) to some one for mining purpose and the person went ahead to other portions of land which is against their initial agreement.
” We are here to do our findings to ascertain the true position in the interest of peace and for the overall development of the area.
“We will ensure that justice is done on the matter” he said.
Hon. Omadefu said that the committee would invite all the affected persons on the matter for thorough investigation.
He called on the people of Igwo community and other surrounding communities to remain peaceful and calm while assuring them of Justice on the matter.
“We are appealing to the inhabitants of this community to please refrain from any negative act and remain calm as we want to assure them that justice will be done on the matter” he added.
It would be reported that the committee earlier visited the palace of Osu Igwo, Alhaji Mohammed Otogoyi to inform him of their mission in his community.
On his part, Alhaji Mohammed Otogoyi, the Osu Igwo, Kokona LGA appreciated the committee for the visit in order to ascertain the true position of the petition.
He told the committee that the land in question belongs to Ahmed Osanga family.
“It was Alhaji Ali that pleaded with Alhaji Ahmed Osanga to lease him the piece of land for mining and to the best of my knowledge, the piece of land belong to Alhaji Ahmed Osanga family.
Otogoyi urged the committee to be just and fair on the matter at hand.
The Village Head wished the committee well in its assignment.
It would be reported that the site Manager of Baoan Global Mining LTD, Segun Seun took the committee members round the mining pits.
The Representative of Osu Igwo, Mr Ibrahim Osanga was also on ground during the committee’s assessment visit.
It would be reported that the family of Ahmed Osanga Otogoyi and Alhaji Ali was said to have signed a lease agreement for five (5) years on the said portion of land on 13th April, 2020.
It was however alleged that Alhaji Ali has several times prevented Ahmed Osanga Otogoyi family from gaining access to their land using thugs and Security men as the committee is set to also hear from the other side.
