The National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC), has emphasied the importance of effective communication in public service delivery.
The Chairman of NSIWC, Mr Ekpo Nta, represented by the Secretary of the commission, Mr Chiadi Adighiogu, stated this on Tuesday at a workshop on “Effective Communication in the 21st Century” for members of staff in Abuja.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the workshop was organised by the commission in collaboration with the Centre for Management Development (CMD).
The chairman, who reiterated the significance of the training, added that communication plays a pivotal role in governance and public service.
“The theme of this training: ‘Effective Communication in the 21st Century’ has been chosen in recognition of the pivotal role of communication in the public service of the nation.
“Communication by simple terms signifies that there’s the passage of information or idea through a medium to an audience and that’s exactly what we are doing today.
“In any case, we are trying to sharpen your knowledge and prepare you for the implementation of the Renewed Hope Agenda of the present administration led by President Bola Tinubu.
“This programme reflects our commitment to continuous staff development. Effective communication is the backbone of leadership, influencing behaviuors and fostering collaboration,” he said.
“Among the 140 staff members of the commission, those present were carefully chosen, and “to whom much is given, much is expected,” he added.
Earlier, the Director-General of CMD, Mr Bitrus Chinoko, represented by the Director of Administration and Human Resources, Alhaji Nuhu Mohammad, emphasised the importance of interactive learning.
According to him, the training is expected to equip participants with modern communication strategies to enhance efficiency within the public sector.
“I encourage all participants to engage actively with facilitators and make the class lively. This is an opportunity for knowledge-sharing beyond the traditional student-teacher approach,” he said.
