A Jos Magistrates’ Court on Thursday sentenced a 38-year-old fashion designer , George Goma, to 18 months imprisonment for stealing a mobile phone.
Magistrate Shawomi Bokkos sentenced Goma after he pleaded guilty to theft.
Bokkos in his judgment, ordered the convict to pay an option of N30,000 fine or spend six months in prison.
He also ordered the convict to pay N180,000 as compensation or in default, he will spend another six months in prison.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp Ibrahim Gokwat told the court that the case was reported on Jan.7, at the Anglo-Jos Police station by one Desmond Ali, the complainant.
Gokwat said that the convict visited the complainant’s, who was his best friend and stole his phone worth N180,000.
He said efforts made by the police to recover the phone failed because Goma sold the phone.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the Plateau Penal Code Law.
