Nasarawa State House of Assembly Committee on Education, Science and Technology, has warned contractors handling construction of school projects across the state against sub standard or shoddy work.
Rt. Hon. Abel Yakubu Bala, the Chairman of the committee gave the warning while inspecting completed and ongoing projects at Government Science Secondary School (GSSS) Karu and others in Kokona and Akwanga LGAs on Tuesday.
It would be reported that the projects inspected include the renovation of a block of Laboratory, renovation of a block of three classrooms with an office and perimeter fencing, all in GSSS Karu
Hon. Abel said that the renovation of the laboratory and perimeter fencing have been completed but lamented over poor work done.
” We will take it up with the contractors as the work were poorly done and there is cracks in the building” he said.
He said that the committee would not fold its hands to watch contractors sabotaging Gov. Sule’s good intention for the education sector.
” We are here to inspect about three projects. We want to ensure that contractors adhere strictly to their contract specification.
” We will not allow any contractor to sabotage His Excellency’s efforts in the education sector.
” As Gov. Abdullahi Sule meant well and is doing well in the education sector. We will give him all the necessary support to succeed” he said.
Hon. Abel assured of the committee’s commitment to ensure that right things are done for the overall development of the state.
Besides, the committee advised for an improvement and harped on good and quality food to be given to the students.
Earlier, Mr Abu Sanusi, the Principal, Government Science Secondary School Karu appreciated the committee for the visit and assured of the teachers commitment to their duties at all times.
In a related development, the Committee also visited Nasarawa State University Keffi to inspect the ongoing 4.5Km road among other completed projects.
The Committee Chairman, Hon. Abel Yakubu Bala, commended Gov. Abdullahi Sule for his passion and interest in the education sector.
Earlier, Prof. Theophilus Daniel, the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Administration appreciated the State Government for executing some projects in the institution.
He also took his time to outlined some completed projects and ongoing projects in the institution by the state government.
The Deputy Vice Chancellor assured of their commitment to create an enabling environment for teaching and learning.
The committee also visited Special Nomadic Academy, Sabon Gida Kokona LGA which has 214 students with 12 teachers.
The committee members were received in the school by Mr Mohammed Isa, the School Director.
The Committee further inspected a block of classroom with an office at Government Secondary School Gudi where it lauded Gov. Sule’s giant developmental strides in the education sector.
It would be reported that Mr Yunusa Abubakar Kwanza, Procurement Officer Ministry of Education among others were also on ground during the inspection.
In a related development, the Nasarawa State House of Assembly Commitment on Education, Science and Technology, has sought for the collaboration and assistance of Chairmen of local government areas in the State to address challenges facing education sector in the state.
Hon. Abel Yakubu Bala, the Chairman of the Committee made the call when they visited the Chairman, Karu LGA, Barr. Abubakar Aliyu Madaki after inspecting some projects at Government Science Secondary School (GSSS) Karu today.
Hon. Abel told the chairman that the committee inspected projects executed by the state government in the school and observed that there are areas the Chairman need to come in and addressed.
” When we inspected some projects and interfaced with the students of GSSS Karu, we discovered that the students need Mosquito nets.
” There is the need to have adequate water and staff Quarters in the school among others.
” We want you to come in to provide some little things that will help the students” he said.
The committee chairman commended Gov. Abdullahi Sule’s efforts in developing the education sector and tasked LG Chairmen to come in and play their parts.
Responding, Barr. Abubakar Aliyu Madaki, the Executive Chairman, Karu LGA appreciated the committee for the visit and assured of his commitment to collaborate with the state government for improved standard of education in the area.
The Chairman commended the committee for being up and doing in inspecting projects toward ensuring that right things are done by the contractors.
” I want to appreciate you and His Excellency , Engr. A A Sule for your interests in the education sector” he said.
The Chairman told the committee that he would visit the school immediately with the view of seeing things for himself and render assistance where necessary.
” I want to assure you that I will visit the school immediate and provide the mosquito nets for the students” He added.
