………… as the House lauds contractor handlings projects at COAST Lafia over quality job.
Nasarawa State House of Assembly, has expressed displeasure over use of sub standard materials by a contractor handling the construction of hostel in Isa Mustapha Agwai 1 Polytechnic Lafia.
Rt. Hon. Abel Yakubu Bala, the Chairman, House Committee on Education stated this while inspecting the ongoing construction of Hotel in IMAPLafia today.
The Committee also inspected projects at GSS Bukan Sidi, AGILE Projects Lafia, College of Agriculture, Science and Technology, Lafia and Wing Commander Abdullahi Ibrahim Vocational and Technology Institute, Lafia.
Hon. Abel said that the contractor handling the construction of hostel in IMAP Lafia must do the needful or the committee would advise appropriately.
” We visited this site last year and today the work is still in the foundation level, why?
” We are not happy with the level of work so far done and the quality of work is very poor.
” From all indications, the materials used are sub standard materials.
” We will draw the attention of the contractor because we will not fold our hands to see the good intention of Mr Governor, Engr. A A Sule to be taunted by any contractors.
” Even the foundation was poorly done, we want to ensure that no contractor shortchanged His Excellency, Engr
A A Sule’s efforts in the education sector,” he said.
Hon. Abel said that the committee will report their findings appropriate to the House.
” We will give our reports appropriately so that the right thing should be done,” he said.
Dr. Nurudeen Muazu Maifata, the Acting Rector, IMAPLafia appreciated the committee for overnighting government projects in the state.
He said that the hostel if constructed would help in improving the standard of education in the institution.
The committee also visited Command Science and Technical Secondary School, Rinze, Akwanga LGA to inspect renovation of Dinner and Staff Quarters where the committee Chairman , Rt. Hon. Abel Yakubu Bala hailed Gov. Abdullahi Sule for his commitment for science and technical education in the state.
The committee commended the contractor, Namairo and Sons Nigeria Limited handling the project for doing good work and called for its sustenance.
Responding, the Principal of the School, Lt. Col GA Adejumo appreciated the committee and the state government for awarding the contract.
He called for speedy completion of the staff Quarters for effective service delivery.
The committee also visited GSS Bukan Sidi to inspect the ongoing construction of fence where the Chairman Rt. Hon. Abel Yakubu Bala lauded the quality of work done so far by the contractor.
The committee Chairman urged the contractor to ensure that he delivered the work according to specifications.
On his part, Mr Abubakar Bwari Yakubu, the Principal of the School, appreciated the committee and the state government for the project.
He assured of his readiness to guard the school facilities against vandalization.
The committee also visited Adolescent Girls Initiative and Empowerment (AGILE) Project Lafia to inspect Solar Borehole and Fence where Hon Abel Yakubu Bala, the Chairman of the committee lamented over poor work done by the contractor and urged him to improve on it.
Hon Abel urged the contractor to do the needful as the project lasts.
The Committee Chairman also called for landscaping and provision of Air Conditions (ACs) in the AGILE Project office.
On her part, Hajiya Aishatu Aliyu Isoga, the State Project Coordinator of AGILE appreciated the committee for ensuring the development of the project in the state.
She also commended Gov. Sule for prioritizing the development of the project in the State.
The committee equal visited College of Agriculture, Science and Technology Lafia to inspect the College Cafeteria, Staff offices and renovation of hostels.
Rt. Hon. Abel Yakubu Bala, the Chairman of the committee commended the contractor for good job done.
” I want to commend the contractor handling projects in College of Agriculture, Science and Technology for good job done compared to what we have seen in other places.
” We are happy with the work and we urge the contractor to sustain the tempo.
” The Contractor has the fear of God, that is why he delivered quality work,” Hon Abel said.
Responding, Mr Yakubu Atiku, the contractor handling the work appreciated the committee for the good commendation on his work.
He said that he has done the job according to specifications and with the fear of God.
The contractor pledged his company’s commitment to quality work at all times.
The Committee further inspected ongoing renovation of the Multipurpose hall at Wing Commander Abdullahi Ibrahim Vocational and Technology Institute, Lafia.
The Chairman of the Committee , Rt. Hon. Abel Yakubu Bala urged the contractor to fix ceiling fans and windows and to ensure that the work is delivered according to specification.
On his part, Dr Daniel Ewuga Asele the Executive Director of the institute thanked the committee for always prioritizing the activities of the institute.
He also appreciated Gov. Sule for giving attention to the institute in the state.
