The Nasarawa State House of Assembly Committee on Environment has today Tuesday met with the Managing Director of Multiverse Mining Exploration Plc operating in Abuni, Awe LG.
The meeting was aimed at addressing range of issues include petition before the committee on allegation of abuse of agreement by the company where the lawmakers said that they will revisit the mining site to ascertain the accuracy of provision of Community Development Agreements (CDAs) as claimed by the Managing Director of the Company, Ayo Oluwasusi.
Hon. Mohammed Adamu Omadefu, the Chairman of the Committee stated this during the meeting with the MD and management team.of Multiverse Mining and Exploration PLC in Lafia today.
Hon. Omadefu said that the Committee summoned the Managing Director, Multiverse Mining and Exploration PLC in order to get information on the company’s operation in the area.
” Actually the meeting was as a result of our visit last year to the site of the mining where we needed some information on the operation of the company but we were not adequately briefed by those on ground.
” Today, the MD of the company was able to furnished us with all the information needed regarding Community Development Agreements (CDAs) among others. To some extend, we are satisfied with the information provided.
” As the MD of the company and Emir of Abuni came to confirmed that there is improvement in those infrastructures provided in the Community Development Agreements (CDAs)
” The company said that they have almost done with the construction of the Youth Centre in the area” he said.
” We will go on site seeing to the company to ascertain whether what they told us that there is improvement in infrastructure among other facilities is true or not” he said.
The committee Chairman also said that the company has given the committee full assurance of improvment in fulfilling CDAs.
Hon. Omadefu further assured of the committee’s commitment in ensuring the development of mining sector in the State.
On his part, Mr Ayo Oluwasusi, the Managing Director,
(MD) Multiverse Mining and Exploration PLC appreciated the committee for being up and doing in ensuring the development of mining sector in the State.
” We have a standard policy for land reclamation in line with international best practices.
” We have improved on our Community Development Agreement up to 80 percent and now operate in line with global standard policy of mining exploratation.
The MD said that the company have been paying their royalties regularly.
” we have been paying our royalties regularly. We are duty bound to obey all relevant laws and we have done a lot in terms of Community Development Agreements (CDAs) he added.
